Academic Advising

What is Academic Advising?

Academic Advising is here to assist and guide you from your first semester through graduation. You will first meet with Academic Advising after you have been admitted to the college and have taken a placement test. (Some students with qualifying SAT/ACT test scores or transfer credits will not need to be tested.)

The Academic Advising Department has compiled the Academic Advising Guidebook for Enrollment and Registration.  This helpful guide will provide you with important information you will need on your educational journey. Our Academic Advisors are here to help you, so please come by our office any time you have questions or concerns.

If you are already registered or before you register for classes please see "Tuition Payment Policy - Spring 2012" for tuition due dates.

Are you an online student who needs help with Advising?  Please review "How to get advising help if you are an online student."  Online students may email an advisor via Falconmail with questions, please see the handout to find out how.

Per Florida state rule 6A-10.0315, a degree seeking student has a maximum of two (2) attempts on the approved placement test (P.E.R.T.).  Prior to the second attempt at the test remediation must occur.   Eligibility to retest is determined by an Academic Advisor.  Students WILL NOT be permitted to have a third attempt at the P.E.R.T.

The college is closed on the following days and Advising Services will not be available

In addition, the college will close at 5pm prior to all federal holidays that are observed by the college, such as the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the day before Independence Day (if a weekday).
December 16, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. – January 3, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. – Holiday Break
January 16, 2012 – Martin Luther King Day
March 9, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. – March 19, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. – Spring Break
May 28, 2012 – Memorial Day
July 4, 2012 – Independence Day

We are available on all campuses - No appointment necessary - Advising is on a walk-in basis.

Are you ready to choose your classes?

Our professional and friendly staff will:

• Discuss program and course requirements
• Provide an explanation of test scores and/or course placement
• Provide a general overview of the process of course selection and registration
• Explain your student rights and responsibilities 
• Teach you how to use FalconNet and On-line Student Services
• Present information for tutoring and study skills, or help with a specific academic problem

As you progress through your academic program, Academic Advising will continue to assist you with further course selection, changes in programs, and graduation. We're also here as a resource as you transition to Daytona State College's 4-year degree programs or another 4-year college or university.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Community Scholars Program is a quality-driven program at Daytona State College designed to adapt and implement a series of best practices for recruitment and retention of students in STEM Associate of Arts and Associate of Science programs to expand the talent entering and completing STEM degree programs.  Please see the STEM website for further information.
